Music
The Music Department is committed to developing confident, creative, and skilled musicians. In our college-preparatory environment, students learn what it means to be a part of a professional ensemble. Being a member of a performing ensemble provides students with skills necessary for the 21st century workplace including sequential instruction in discipline, communication, working cooperatively, problem solving and the ability to analyze.
Opportunities for musical experiences include participation in Vocal and Instrumental Ensembles, Applied Lessons, Class Piano, and AP Music Theory. Vocal ensembles include auditioned and non-auditioned choirs. Instrumental ensembles at RCS include Concert Band, Jazz Band, Pep Band, and a variety of chamber ensembles.
We offer music classes to students in grades pre-K-12 including: Kindermusik and General Music at the Primary Level; and Band, Choir, Jazz Band, & Theory for students grades 5-12. In 2019, a record 33 students were accepted into ILMEA All-District Honors in Band, Jazz Band and Choir.
Our aim is to honor God through exploring the creativity and beauty of music.
One of our goals as musicians is to share the gifts we've been given with those around us. Because of this, we put on many programs and concerts throughout the year. All grade levels participate in events throughout the year, culminating in a semi-annual week-long tour including the top ensembles from the High School, with destinations such as Nashville, TN and Disney World, FL.
