Emergency Situations and Weather Cancellations

EMERGENCY SITUATIONS

During an emergency our first priority is to do what is needed to protect students and staff. Rockford Christian will then communicate to parents as quickly as possible once we have accurate information to disseminate.

In the event of an evacuation, students will be relocated to an appropriate evacuation assembly area. If students have been relocated due to an emergency, only parents/guardians or people listed as emergency contacts will be directed by school or public safety officials to their child's specific location.  Valid ID such as a driver's license, military ID, State ID, or passport, may be required for verification at student pick-up points.

To feel comfortable in emergency situations, stay informed of these emergency terms and procedures to help understand the communication that is relayed during an emergency:

- Shelter-in-Place:  student take shelter in designated areas to protect them from hazardous material or severe weather. Entry or exit from the school will be controlled. Shelter-in-place may also be used in a medical emergency when there is no immediate threat to students, but when school officials determine that a situation requires hallways to be clear until a situation is resolved.

- A Soft Lockdown takes place if a threat is identified outside the school. All school doors are locked, but classes continue as normal. No entry into or exit from school will be allowed.

- A Hard Lockdown takes place if a threat is identified inside the school.  All school doors are locked and students are confined to classrooms. No entry into or exit from the school will be allowed.

-A.L.I.C.E. (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) ALICE is a term that is used in only the most extreme of situations. In such situations school personnel will make decisions to counter or evacuate a catastrophic situation (i.e. active shooter). School personnel are provided education as to potential protective measures and evacuation techniques and strategies.

INCLEMENT WEATHER COMMUNICATION

We want to remind staff, parents and students of our communication procedures during inclement weather conditions.

Should weather conditions warrant, schools may be either closed, start late, or dismissed early. When possible, decisions to close or delay the start of school will be made as early as possible. In all these situations, you can expect the following communication from Rockford Christian:
